Whilst the school closed to most pupils, this did not stopped many of our hard working readers in Year 7 and 8. Pupils continued to take part in the ‘Accelerated Reader’ programme with the additional support of Senior School Librarian, Mrs Dewhurst.
As always at the end of each term, pupils have been recognised for surpassing key milestones and have been sent digital certificates via email to celebrate their achievements. 15 pupils in Year 7 have reached 500,000 words (STAR Readers) along with 13 pupils in Year 8. Four pupils in Year 7 have reached over a million words, as have nine Year 8 pupils. A special mention goes to Year 7 pupil Bilal Daud for his staggering word count of 3,570,942 words, well done Bilal!
Considering the challenging times that surround us currently, Mrs Dewhurst has been thoroughly impressed by the number of pupils committed to their reading at home. The school is also grateful to RenLearn, who have lifted all restrictions so pupils can quiz and read freely at home on the programme.
Those who didn’t quite reach the awards last term will have another opportunity this term, as the programme continues. Guidance and motivation is shared on the QEGS Senior School Library Facebook page; be sure to like the page to see daily posts and ideas to help with home learning.
