Zakariya Bux, Head Boy at QEGS Blackburn, has been offered a place at Oxford University to study the revered Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) course.

Following a successful interview and admissions test with the prestigious institute, Year 13 student Zak received the offer subject to securing three A grades at A level. Zak, who studies Mathematics, Further Mathematics, History and Physics A levels has impressed throughout his time in the Senior Phase and Sixth Form, both academically and through his commitment to extra-curricular activity.

Head at QEGS Blackburn, Mrs Claire Gammon, is delighted that Zak has received the offer that she believes he truly deserves.

“I was so pleased to hear that Zak gained an offer from Oxford this week. It is a testament to his excellent application to school life and his fantastic commitment to his studies since joining us, which he did aged three in our nursery. He was the natural fit to be Head Boy for this academic year and sets an excellent example for our younger pupils. I know he will flourish at Oxford and I believe he has a very exciting future ahead of him.”

Zak, who is now in the 12% of applicants who are successful in gaining a place to study PPE at Oxford, is relishing the challenge ahead of him.

“I was thrilled to receive the good news from Oxford this week. I have always set my sights on studying there and couldn’t think of a better way to start 2021. I will always be grateful to QEGS for their support throughout my time here and the staff who have played a big role in helping me with my application. I am looking forward to the next few months as Head Boy at QEGS and then starting my next chapter in September!”
