A group of Year 8 pupils attended Edge Hill University for an “Aspire to Higher Education” event.
Mr Gould and Mrs Powell accompanied the pupils to explore and research Higher Education in more detail. Pupils received a talk on what Higher Education was all about and the benefits it could have to their future study and employment. They took part in several workshops including using their identified interests to give them ideas about what job they would like to do in the future and how Higher Education could facilitate this.
Arguably the most enjoyable part of the day was the Campus Tour, pupils were impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities on offer at Edge Hill, including the multi-million-pound Sports Centre and Clinical Simulation Centre, a mock hospital, used by medical students to gain vital experience before working on a living patient. The dummies in the beds, breathe, bleed, and even talk to provide students with an experience as close to real life as possible!
The day ended with a quiz all about Edge Hill University and what the pupils had discovered on the day and we are delighted to say that our pupils won 1st prize!
Overall, it was an excellent day where the pupils gained a real understanding of the establishment and what they might like to study in the future.
A big thank you to Mr Gould and Mrs Powell for organising the visit and to the pupils who attended for being excellent QEGS ambassadors.
