On 25th June 2025, 14 Year 12 students had the opportunity to explore a range of careers within the health and medical sectors during Edge Hill University’s Health, Social Care and Medical Taster Day.

Led by Mr D. Moriarty Eames (Subject Leader for Biology) and Mrs Powell (Head of Careers), the visit was open to all Year 12 students with an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare or medicine. The event offered a comprehensive insight into both clinical and non-clinical roles within the sector.

Throughout the day, students engaged in a variety of sessions, including presentations, practical demonstrations of clinical skills, and discussions around ethical issues in healthcare. The experience was particularly valuable for those considering applications to study medicine at university, providing them with a clearer understanding of the expectations and demands of the profession.

In addition to learning about the pathways into medicine, students also explored alternative health-related careers such as Operating Department Practice (ODP), Midwifery, and Paramedicine. Guided tours of Edge Hill University’s state-of-the-art facilities gave them a first-hand look at the learning environments available to students.

Current undergraduates and faculty members shared useful insights into degree options, the application process, and the qualities universities look for in prospective candidates.

The informative and inspiring, gaining valuable knowledge to support their university applications in Year 13.
