Pupils from Year 1 visited the popular Julia Donaldson exhibition at Z Arts and took inspiration from Donaldson’s ‘Zog’ to create their very own hybrid creature.
‘A World Inside A Book: Gruffalos, Dragons and Other Creatures’ is the UK’s first immersive exhibition of author Donaldson’s and illustrator Axel Scheffler’s work, based at the inspiring art space in Hulme, Manchester.
As part of the trip, pupils took part in a writing workshop where they created a full character profile, focusing on their creature’s likes, dislikes and ultimate mission. A range of ideas were presented back to the engaging host before pupils headed into the interactive exhibit which featured lots of well-known favourites such as the Gruffalo and Stickman. The space was very immersive and inspiring for pupils and allowed for a fantastic independent role play session.
The trip supports the creative writing work pupils are doing in school in Year 1 and has hopefully inspired lots of interesting stories for the coming term!
