We would like to thank you for your patience in recent days as we work with Blackburn with Darwen Council on the potential further reopening of our school in the coming weeks. We would also like to thank those who completed the questionnaire to advise whether you would send your children into school from 1st June 2020.
Following updated guidance from Blackburn with Darwen Council, we can confirm we will now not be reopening school to a wider group of pupils and students until at least Monday 8th June 2020. Children of key workers may continue to attend school, however any phased return of year groups will not take place before this date.
BwD have made this decision based on input from a range of sources, including the Department for Education and Public Health England. This updated local plan, including the proposed partial phased reopening date, is reviewed on a weekly basis based on the Government’s updates on the five key tests.
As part of the updated plan, from Monday 8th June at the earliest, it is proposed that Nursery and Reception children will return to school. Groups of Year 10 pupils will also return following a tutorial system, of which further information will be sent in due course. This will then be reviewed, with the hope we can welcome Year 1 pupils into the Primary Phase, alongside Year 12 students following a tutorial system over time. Then, we will again review and look to bring Year 6 pupils back into school. This is all subject to being satisfied with how the process is working and guidance from BwD recommending that this action is taken.
In light of the updated plan, we would request that you email partialclosure@QEGSBlackburn.com if you would like for your child to attend in any of the named year groups:
- Reception
- Year 1
- Year 6
- Year 10
- Year 12
Please can all key workers who wish to continue to send their children in to school also email the address above. All emails must contain the following information:
- Child/Children’s name
- Year group/s
- Parents/Carers name(s)
- Parents/Carers occupation(s)
For pupils and students not attending school, remote work will continue to be set for each weekday, other than week commencing 25th May which is half term. Please note, school will be closed on Monday 25th May for the Bank Holiday.
The Head, Mrs Gammon, would like to reiterate her appreciation for the patience, adaptability and understanding that has been shown in recent weeks, in what is an ever-evolving situation. We will continue to update you as and when we have further information.
