On 11th February 2026, thirteen Year 12 students attended an inspiring Health Degree Taster Day at the University of Cumbria. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to explore a wide range of careers within the health sector and gain first-hand insight into university life.

Throughout the visit, students learned about degree programmes and career opportunities in Biomedical Science, Midwifery, Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic Science and Nursing.

The programme included a series of engaging presentations and informative talks delivered by university staff and subject specialists. Students were also given guided tours of the University of Cumbria’s state-of-the-art facilities, allowing them to see the clinical skills suites, specialist laboratories and simulation environments where undergraduates train.

A key highlight of the day was the opportunity to participate in six interactive sessions, each focusing on a different health discipline. These hands-on activities gave students a practical understanding of the skills and knowledge required in each profession. From exploring diagnostic equipment to learning about patient care techniques, the sessions helped bring each career pathway to life.

The taster day not only broadened students’ awareness of the varied roles within consider their own future aspirations. By engaging directly with lecturers and experiencing the learning environment, students were able to ask questions, gain clarity about entry requirements and better understand the academic and professional commitments involved.

The visit was both informative and motivating, equipping students with greater confidence as they begin to think about their next steps after sixth form. Experiences such as this play a crucial role in supporting students to make informed decisions about higher education and future careers in healthcare.
