Earlier this week, Heather Southworth met with the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and they shared a comprehensive overview of the free Parenting Programmes available to support families across a wide range of needs provided by the BwD Family Hub.
These courses are designed to empower parents and carers with practical strategies and emotional support. Many of them offer creche facilities, and you can either self-refer or be referred by a professional.
You can explore the full range of programmes here: BwD Family Hub Parenting Programmes https://familyhubsbwd.org/looking-after-your-family/parenting-programmes
One programme we would particularly like to highlight is Riding the Rapids. This course is tailored for parents and carers of children who are:
- Autistic or undergoing the ASD assessment process
- Living with significant learning needs or complex disabilities
There are versions of this course for both Primary-aged children and, starting in January, a new version will be available for parents and carers of Secondary-aged pupils (Years 7–11).
There are lots of different programmes such as healthy eating for less, healthy teeth, fussy eaters, understanding children’s behaviour.
We hope you find these resources helpful. If you have any questions or would like support with referrals, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Mental Health Support Team on 01282 628800.
