The Chemistry department were delighted to welcome staff and PhD students from Lancaster University into school for the day to deliver workshops to our Sixth Form Chemistry students.

The workshops had a strong emphasis on encouraging our pupils to consider studying Chemistry at university and also highlighted the career opportunities available with chemistry qualifications.

The experience aptly titled Spectroscopy in a Suitcase gave our students the chance to learn about spectroscopy through hands-on experience in making the drug, paracetamol.  As well as covering the principles of spectroscopic techniques, the activities used real-life contexts to demonstrate the applications of the techniques.

It was an excellent day and the students thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
