Two outstanding Year 13 students from QEGS Sixth Form have been invited to interview for the highly regarded Peel Foundation Scholarship Fund, an award that has supported generations of young people in pursuing higher education since the late 19th century.

The Peel Scholarship Fund, originally established in 1898 in memory of Sir Robert Peel (1750–1830)—born in nearby Oswaldtwistle—has a long history of helping local students enter university and other higher education institutions. In 1965, several individual endowments were combined to create the modern Peel Foundation Scholarship Fund, which continues to play a significant role in supporting academic potential within the community.

Applicants are assessed on academic excellence, career ambition, and financial need—criteria that this year’s two successful interview candidates have demonstrated in abundance.

Both students have shown exceptional academic performance and a clear dedication to their chosen fields of study. Their upcoming interviews highlight not only their personal accomplishments but also the continued tradition of local young people striving for high achievement with the support of the community.

Securing an interview is itself a significant milestone, as the Peel Foundation Scholarship is competitive and deeply rooted in the area’s educational heritage. The recognition reflects each student’s potential to benefit from—and contribute to—the spirit of opportunity the Fund was designed to encourage.

As the two candidates prepare for their interviews, the QEGS community celebrates their achievements and wishes them every success as they take this next important step toward their future careers.
