Music

We are incredibly lucky at Queen Elizabeth’s Primary School to have our very own music specialist who teaches all our pupils on either a weekly basis or a biweekly basis. In EYFS pupils are taught music each week through rhyme, song, movement and rhythm. They are introduced to a variety of musical instruments and are encouraged to perform regularly in class. They take these ideas into continuous provision to make music by banging pots and pans in the sand kitchen, tapping buckets in the water area and using stick outside. Pupils in Years 1-6 are taught music in our specialist Music Rooms and pupils develop their composing, performing, improvisation and listening skills through enjoyable, practical music sessions. Children are taught about the elements of music such as pitch and rhythm, musical history, harmony, melody and notation, using a variety of instruments, including keyboards, recorders, glockenspiels, ukuleles, percussion and voice. Pupils are encouraged to take part in class concerts and school productions throughout the year, where all contributions are praised. There are extra-curricular activities and ensembles available to children in the school, through which, pupils have access to more performance opportunities.

In KS2, pupils are given the opportunity to have private instrumental tuition via the Bolton Music Service. Tuition is offered on piano, woodwind, brass, violin, guitar, drum kit and singing. If your child is interested, please contact Mrs L Newton (lnewton@qegsblackburn.com) to find out more.
