Pupils from across Senior School have been concentrating on poetry in recent weeks, with a range of tasks set to expand their creative writing skills and understanding of poetry.

Pupils in Year 7 have been introduced to Rupi Kaur’s work and encouraged to form their own critical interpretations of it. They then created their own versions inspired by significant events or people in their own lives.

Year 8 pupils have been studying the work of Sei Shōnagon, a Japanese poet and Lady-In-Waiting who served the Empress Teisha during the Heian period.

Further up the school, Year 10 pupils were given pages from old books and asked to create their very own blackout poetry. They focused on language, meaning and structure, making for some very inventive poems!
