QEGS celebrated National Poetry Day with a fun-filled day hosted by Performance Poet and Author, Paul Jenkins. Pupils in Year 4, 5 and 7 spent time listening to Paul in a range of activities, including an on-stage performance of humorous poems written by Paul.

Paul then ran a ‘Poetry Picnic’ for all Year 7 and 8 pupils, who were invited to bring along their own favourite poem. Poems were shared with Paul and the audience in attendance… a lovely way to spend a lunchtime break!

Staff gave positive feedback following the celebratory event, with teachers commenting:

‘Thank you for organising such a brilliant experience for our children. Paul was fantastic from start to finish and the children were gripped by him. Already looking forward to future events. Thanks again.’ – Mr Halliwell, Deputy Head of Primary Phase

‘Thanks for organising this super poetry event – I really enjoyed it and both my class and tutor group were still buzzing about it afterwards!’ – Mrs Wild – English teacher

‘Thank you so much for inviting our Primary pupils. The pupils really enjoyed their sessions and thought Paul was fab!’Mrs Southworth – Head of Primary Phase

Mrs Dewhurst, Head of Senior Library, added: “I’d like to express my thanks to all of our pupils and staff for supporting this annual event, especially our Primary Phase and Year 7 pupils for being such fabulous audiences!”

Some of Paul’s books are now on sale in the Senior School Library. If you would like to purchase a copy, please email vdewhurst@qegsblackburn.com.
