It is important to remember that the legal age to have an account on most social media platforms – Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat and X – is 13 years old.

E Safety Information

E-safety is an integral part of children’s education in today’s digital world and is embedded throughout their learning at school. We also want to support parents and children in developing their understanding of e-safety so they can use the internet and digital media in a safe and secure way.

New technologies inspire children to be creative, communicate, and learn. However, while the internet is a valuable resource, it is important that children and young people are protected from the risks they may encounter online.

At Queen Elizabeth’s Primary School, we aim to highlight both the benefits and the risks of using technology. Through safeguarding and education, we equip our pupils with the knowledge and skills they need to manage their online experiences safely and responsibly.

Keeping Your Child Safe Online
As a parent, you’ll know just how important the internet is to children. They use it to learn, play, socialise, and express themselves. It’s a creative space full of amazing opportunities.

At the same time, it’s natural to feel concerned about the risks your child may face online – such as cyberbullying, contact from strangers, or exposure to illegal or inappropriate content.

Here are some simple ways you can support your child:

  • Talk regularly with your child about what they do online and who they interact with.

  • Use parental controls on devices, apps, and broadband to help filter harmful content.

  • Encourage openness so your child feels comfortable telling you if something worries them.

  • Explore together – show interest in the games, apps, and sites they enjoy.

  • Set boundaries around screen time and online behaviour.

You can engage with your children about their internet use at home. Here are some simple conversation starter ideas:

  • “What’s your favourite game/app at the moment? Can you show me how it works?”

  • “Who do you enjoy chatting with online, and how do you know them?”

  • “Have you ever seen anything online that made you feel uncomfortable or unsure?  Do you know where to go for help?”

  • “If someone you don’t know tried to contact you online, what would you do?”

  • “What’s the funniest or most interesting thing you’ve seen online this week?”

  • “Do you know what to do if someone is unkind to you online?”

  • “How do you decide what’s safe to share online and what should stay private?”

Think about how you use the internet as a family.  What could you do to get more out of the internet together and further enjoy your lives online.

These questions help children open up about their online experiences, while giving you a chance to guide them toward safe and positive use of technology.
