On Tuesday 30th September 2025, twelve KS3 pupils took part in an exciting Work Place Safari, led by Head of Careers Mrs Powell and Head of Physics Mr Hargreaves. The experience was part of the Work Ready Lancashire Initiative, organised by EPBNW Ltd and fully funded as part of a wider push to introduce young people to modern careers in local industry.

The safari gave students a unique behind-the-scenes look at two major manufacturing companies in Darwen: John Lewis Partnership Ltd/Herbert Parkinson and Crown Paints Ltd. Throughout the day, pupils had the opportunity to tour both sites, learn about the manufacturing processes, explore the range of products each company produces, and meet employees working in a variety of roles.

As part of the experience, students took part in hands-on activities and enjoyed insightful talks from staff, gaining a real understanding of the diverse career pathways available within the local manufacturing sector. The visit not only broadened their awareness of potential future careers, but also helped develop their understanding of how classroom learning connects to the world of work.

We extend our sincere thanks to EPBNW Ltd for organising this valuable experience, and to both John Lewis Partnership/Herbert Parkinson and Crown Paints Ltd for their warm hospitality, time, and enthusiasm in welcoming our students.

It was a truly inspiring and informative day for all involved—staff and students alike.
