Careers Education and Guidance (CEIAG) Across the Year Groups
- Pupils will be able to describe their strengths and preferences.
- Each Year group has a dedicated Careers Google Classroom page which is regularly updated with relevant careers information and opportunities for the pupils.
- Each year group has access to Start Profile – an online resource to give them information on various careers they can pursue and local and national LMI data. Pupils can access the site with their own personal log-in from any suitable device.
- Pupils will be able to tell positive stories about their wellbeing, their progression and achievements.
- Pupils will be able to explain how they have benefited as a learner from careers, employability and enterprise activities and experiences.
- Pupils will be able to describe the different ways of looking at people’s careers and how they develop.
- Pupils will be able to identify and make the most of the support around them.
- Whole year groups have external speakers coming in at various point in the year e.g. BAE Systems Roadshow (October). They have a number of assemblies given by the Head of Careers throughout the year.
- In Year 9, pupils have one period per week in which they do PSHE and within this they will complete Careers lessons and be given relevant information.
- An Options Evening follows class work and many assemblies designed specifically to aid pupils in the selection of GCSE/Vocational/ T-Level/BTEC/Apprenticeship options Post 16 whether here at QEGS or at other providers.

- Year 9 pupils take part in a Speed Networking event with local employers in the Trinity term to find out more about different careers and qualification routes.
- In Year 10, pupils start to focus their preparation for the Post 16 choices that they will make during Year 11. They have targeted sessions which help with preparation for Work Experience. All pupils complete a week of work experience in a placement as close as possible to that which is requested. Placements are either provided by an outside agency (EPBNW) or pupils can arrange their own, with EPBNW completing the H&S visits and statutory requirements. Most placements are local so that teachers can visit each pupil in their placement but specific ones can be arranged outside of the area if required/requested.
- Pupils have a range of Careers Dept. assemblies and to specifically give BTEC and apprenticeship information.

- In Year 11 the programme covers opportunities Post 16, and activities such as action planning, job hunting, writing a CV and interview skills. Year 11 are encouraged to attend the Sixth Form Open Evening.
- All Year 11 attend a careers fair in Blackburn during Michaelmas term to speak to local employers and education and training providers to learn about where they can study A Levels, BTEC’s, T-Levels and Apprenticeships. This is so that they can make an informed decision and start making arrangements for their Post 16 education.
- During the Lent term all Year 11 attend a taster day in the Sixth Form and attend taster sessions to sample Post 16 A Levels at QEGS.
- All Year 11 pupils are offered a personal Careers Interview with Mrs Powell Head of Careers.
- Pupils have a range of Careers Department assemblies throughout the year from local employers, education and training providers so that they are fully aware of all of the different options available to them Post 16.

- Post GCSE results day the Head of Careers is available to offer advice and guidance to Year 11 pupils no longer staying at QEGS to find them appropriate Post 16 courses.
- For Year 12 students CEIAG is embedded within their Complementary Studies programme. This programme also allows for drop in sessions to assist individuals.
- UCAS planning starts early in the first half of the Michaelmas term when the whole year group visit a UCAS HE and Apprenticeship Conference.
- Specific groups, such as those wanting medical careers, are set up to allow the efficient dissemination of information.
- A specific group of potential Oxbridge students are taken to the Oxbridge Conference in March for a series of subject related talks. This same group is then taken to the 2 universities in the second half of the Trinity term to look around specific colleges for 2 days.
- Students arrange work experience placements in conjunction with the department during the first week of June.
- The UCAS evening in June allows parents and students the opportunity to hear presentations from independent bodies and a finance talk by a university representative.
- Students are taken off timetable for a full morning during the Trinity Term for 2 mornings to complete UCAS training and Personal Statement training by the careers team and also external, independent providers. Apprenticeship advice is also given through an external speaker.
- Year 12 students are encouraged to attend University Open Days and the school allows 3 days off timetable for these events.
- Year 12 students are also encouraged to attend university Summer Schools and taster days so that they can experience degrees and universities that they are interested in.
- All students are assisted with their future paths and there is an extensive programme in place to assist with UCAS application. Personal references are checked by tutors, the Head of Careers and then the UCAS co-ordinator.
- Year 13 students are encouraged to attend University Open Days at weekends in the Michaelmas term if they are still unsure about their application.
- Any student who is given the offer of a University interview is provided with practice interviews in school if they wish with the Careers team and/or external contacts who are experts in their chosen degree field if applicable and feasible. Oxbridge candidates are encouraged to seek an interview from the Head.
- Post A level results day the Head of Careers is available to offer advice and guidance to Year 13 students to find them appropriate Post 18 courses through clearing or offer advice on their next educational/employment step.
