Following the current measures that are in place around school, QEGS’ PE department have successfully held the 2020/2021 House Cross Country races for pupils in Year 7-10.
As always, staff were incredibly pleased with the effort and resilience that pupils showed whilst running, despite the sometimes challenging conditions.
In Year 7, Sahil Iftikhar and Ava Kelly were crowned their respective race winners, with Grenville named as the winning House. Molly Caffrey and Jacob Velutheppilly claimed first place in the Year 8 races, with Grenville coming out on top. The champion House in the Year 9 competition was Howard, as Aidan Robinson and Billie Caffrey raced to victory to secure first place.
Finally, in Year 10, Maisie Roberts and Oliver Jenkins shared the top spot after a fantastic performance in their races, with Grenville again named champion House.
Dr Butler, Head of PE at QEGS, explained: “We are all aware of the benefit of outdoor activity, particularly at the moment, so it was fantastic to run this event in what is a very different school year. Regardless of fitness levels and running ability, I am proud to say that many of our pupils applied themselves well and special mention must also go to our Year 11 and Sixth Form volunteers, who marshalled the Year 7 races and cheered on their fellow pupils.”
The winning House from each year group’s Cross Country races will contribute towards the House competition tally throughout 2020/2021 academic year, with overall winners named in Summer 2021.
