Mr Hargreaves, Head of Physics and Mrs Powell, Head of Careers accompanied a group of 12 Year 10 and 11 pupils to the impressive WEC Academy in Blackburn.

WEC offer engineering Apprenticeships in Welding/Fabrication, CNC Machining & Laser & Press Brake Operation. The in-house Training Academy was founded in 2006 and is one of the only apprenticeship schemes of its type in the UK.

The visit was aimed at educating and inspiring pupils who had an interest in gaining a career in engineering in the future. During the visit pupils were able to find out more about WEC’s early careers’ programmes and various apprenticeship opportunities available to them post 16 and post 18.

The day included a presentation and a tour of WEC’s training academy and interactive activities such as chocolate welding and VR where pupils could experience virtually what welding is like.

Thank you to Group Apprenticeship Coordinator, Edd Belshaw for making the visit informative but also enjoyable.

The visit was a huge success and pupils were motivated to learn more about this type of engineering. Mrs Powell was pleased that this opportunity was available to pupils in school and she hopes to continue to work with WEC to promote apprenticeships with their prestigious company in the future.
