Pupils in Year 11 sets 1 and 2 for Mathematics, enjoyed a captivating talk from Dr. Danielle Bewsher. As Principal Lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Central Lancashire, Danielle currently provides academic leadership to the mathematics, physics, and astronomy subject areas.

This was an ideal opportunity for pupils to hear about the benefits of pursuing Mathematics at A Level and Degree Level, and the diverse career opportunities available.

Dr. Bewsher spoke about how she was research active within the area of astrophysics and was a member of the Solar Physics Research Group, which is part of the Jeremiah Horrocks Institute. Dr Bewsher also previously worked at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, where she was involved with calibrating the STEREO Heliospheric Imagers.

Pupils listened intently as Dr. Bewsher explained she also held a European Space Agency External Fellowship at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Centre in Maryland, USA.

Dr Bewshers talk certainly gave our pupils a valuable insight into the real-life applications of Mathematics and the different study routes available to study Mathematics at University.
