We are delighted to share the inspiring journey of former QEGS pupil Esme, who attended QEGS from 2007 to 2022 and studied Fine Art, Critical and Contextual Studies in Art, and English at A Level.

Since leaving QEGS, Esme has achieved a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art from the University of Lancashire. Throughout her studies, she continued to develop her passion for textiles, building on the creative foundations established during her time in the QEGS Sixth Form.

Inspired by growing up and being educated in Blackburn, Esme’s work celebrates the rich heritage of the North West’s cotton industry. Through her art, she explores themes of labour, inherited skills, and the generations of makers and menders whose craftsmanship helped shape our local communities.

Esme has now chosen to pursue a career in teaching, a decision she says was inspired by the outstanding support and opportunities she received from the QEGS Art Department. Reflecting on her experience, she credits her teachers with providing unique opportunities and qualifications that she never imagined possible for herself.

By becoming a teacher, Esme hopes to pass on the knowledge, insight and creative inspiration she has gained, helping to nurture and encourage the next generation of young artists.

We are incredibly proud of all that Esme has achieved and look forward to seeing the positive impact she will have on future artists. Congratulations, Esme!
