It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Dr John Forbes on 9th January 2019, aged 74.
John came to QEGS in 1952 and went on to join the Merchant Navy in 1962 as a cadet officer. After becoming a second mate he decided to resume his education and studied civil engineering at Swansea University where he gained his PhD. Thereafter he worked as a civil engineer in private practice until his retirement in 1998. John loved Wales and lived there for the last 43 years of his life.
John’s family has a long history with QEGS. His father Donald, uncles Norman and Kenneth and brothers David and Peter, along with his nephew Andrew, are all former pupils. He attended the OBA dinners when he could and enjoyed reading about his old school and former contempories in the school newsletter.
We send our deepest sympathy and condolences to John’s three children, partner Barbara, family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
