On Friday 20th May, QEGS will take part in celebrating Cultural Diversity Day.

Cultural Diversity Day is promoted by The United Nations,

‘Three-quarters of the world’s major conflicts have a cultural dimension. Bridging the gap between cultures is urgent and necessary for peace, stability and development.

Cultural diversity is a driving force of development, not only with respect to economic growth, but also as a means of leading a more fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual life. This is captured in the culture conventions, which provide a solid basis for the promotion of cultural diversity. Cultural diversity is thus an asset that is indispensable for poverty reduction and the achievement of sustainable development.

At the same time, acceptance and recognition of cultural diversity…are conducive to dialogue among civilizations and cultures, respect and mutual understanding.’

Pupils and Students in Years 7 to 10 and 12 to 13 are invited to attend in cultural dress. Pupils and students will be participating in a usual school day so please bear this in mind when choosing clothing. Year 7 pupils will be attending Games and will need to bring their PE kit as usual.

There will be a remote assembly on Cultural Diversity during morning registration, after which pupils and students will attend their usual lessons. The lessons on 20th May will include elements of cultural diversity to celebrate the day and inform pupils and students of different customs, cultures, inclusion and diversity across the world.

Pupils and students are invited to donate £2 towards the charity of the day, UNICEF, who work to keep children worldwide, safe from danger. They can donate in cash via their Form Tutor, or donations can be made via our JustGiving page which can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/qegs-academy-trust-blackburn?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=qegs-academy-trust-blackburn&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=9990fa27e44f4066b3093d6845afdda2
