Year 9 took part in a Creative Music Day on Thursday 30th January.

They were joined by three professional musicians who work with school through Bolton Music Service, providing specialist instrumental tuition throughout Term time at QEGS.

All pupils performed well-known popular music on ukuleles, along with traditional and Bollywood-inspired dhol drumming. When pupils arrived at the third workshop, they formed a Samba band and performed syncopated call and response rhythms that echoed the carnival atmosphere of Brazil.

The afternoon session was an inspiring showcase of the excellent musicianship of the workshop leaders and gave our Year 9 pupils the opportunity to ask each musician about their careers, pathways into Music and about the skills they had all developed earlier in the day. Pupils were also invited to take to the stage to try their hand at tabla drumming with many budding percussionists coming to the fore!

Pupils also recorded evidence in their Bronze Arts Award booklet about their participation in the arts, their experience of being an audience member and their interactions during the day with professional musicians. We wish them luck in completing the Bronze Arts Award qualification that is awarded by Arts Council England.

‘It was a fantastic day of music-making and the pupils were excellent ambassadors for the Creative Arts at QEGS’ – Miss E Cockshott (Subject Leader of Music).
