Following the ‘1 mile challenge’ held in July 2020, QEGS have received a certificate and official recognition for their donation to Children with Cancer UK. The charity received £500 thanks to the generosity of parents, carers, pupils, students and staff.

Children of key workers took part in the socially-distanced event in school at the start of July, whilst those who were studying and working from home completed their mile in their local neighbourhoods. Photos, videos and messages of good will were sent in across the day, with a montage available to view here.

Dr Mark Butler, Head of PE at QEGS, said: “In the current climate, raising so much money for charity is an incredible achievement and shows just what a selfless and kind community we have here at QEGS. Physical activity is so important, especially in times of lockdown and local restrictions. and we know that several of our families continued their 1 mile challenge with a summer of running, jogging and walking!”

“Donations have been made to Children with Cancer and Breast Cancer Now, which are very close to the heart of the school and we are very proud of that in our own small way, we have improved the lives of those battling cancer.”
