On Monday 26th June, a team of four Year 9 pupils competed in the Blackburn with Darwen Physics Olympics against teams from three other local schools.
The event was organised by the Blackburn with Darwen Ogden Trust Partnership and was hosted in the QEGS Physics Department. Teams competed in a number of events, applying Physics principles to both practical and mental challenges.
Highlights of the day included building strong bridges from paper, constructing tall towers from spaghetti and marshmallows and designing their own one-minute timer using only the equipment provided along with completing a challenging Fermi quiz.
At the end of the day, the team from Queen Elizabeth’s emerged as 2023 Champions. Congratulations to our team who not only showed excellent understanding of Physics but also worked as a cohesive team throughout the day.
Many thanks to all the schools who attended as well as our Science technicians for all the resources they prepared in advance and the A-level Physics students who assisted in the running of the event.
