Bolton Symphony Orchestra is delighted to be performing their next concert, conducted by Musical Director Ben Crick, entitled “A New Day”, at the Victoria Hall, Bolton on Saturday 11th May at 7.30pm.

This concert is a collaboration between Bolton Symphony Orchestra, BCMCS Choral and The BMS Singers and they will have four excellent professional singers joining them.  It is a rare opportunity to hear Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (the Choral Symphony) with its stunning Ode to Joy, in the heart of Bolton.

The programme also features two works by women composers – Lili Boulanger and Dame Ethyl Smyth. Boulanger’s D’Un Matin de Printemps has just been included in the newly released list of BBC Ten Pieces featuring only women composers, and The First Glimmer of Dawn by Ethyl Smyth is not very well-known but a fantastic piece. The concert begins with Vaughan Williams’ Toward the Unknown Region, another beautiful, melodic piece with gorgeous harmonies for choir and orchestra.
