QEGS was honoured to welcome award‑winning author Tamsin Winter to school today as part of our celebrations for World Book Day 2026. Tamsin, whose acclaimed novels include Bad Influence and I Dare You, spent the day working with pupils across a series of creative writing workshops designed to inspire confidence, imagination, and a deeper understanding of the writing process.
Throughout the morning, pupils explored how writers develop compelling characters, build narrative tension, and shape ideas into fully realised stories. Tamsin shared insights from her own writing career, offering practical advice on drafting, editing, and the realities of becoming a published author. Students engaged with enthusiasm, asking thoughtful questions about everything from finding a unique voice to overcoming writer’s block. Their curiosity and creativity were evident, and it was clear that many left the sessions feeling motivated to pursue their own writing ambitions.
During lunchtime, Tamsin joined pupils in the school library, where she signed books and bookmarks and continued conversations sparked during the workshops. This informal session gave students the opportunity to discuss their favourite books, seek further guidance, and share their own story ideas in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Visits such as this play an important role in enriching our curriculum and encouraging a love of reading and writing across the school. We are deeply grateful to Tamsin for giving her time so generously and for contributing to such an inspiring and memorable World Book Day. We hope she enjoyed her visit as much as our pupils and staff did.
