On Thursday 27th February 2025, Alfred Norse came into QEGS to give information to the Year 10 pupils who are interested in pursuing engineering post 16, about the benefits of applying for the Arkwright Scholarship when they are in Year 11. Having successfully applying for the scholarship himself two years ago he explained what it entailed and also discussed with the pupils what he did to make his application successfully stand out from others who also applied.
During Michaelmas term, at QEGS we encourage our Year 11 pupils who have a strong desire to pursue engineering to apply for this scholarship. Miss Watson who is the schools Arkwright link and Mrs Powell both support interested pupils through the whole application process. By having this talk whilst pupils are in Year 10, we believe it will enable those interested to start thinking about possible projects and extra-curricular activities they can undertake before the applications open in September 2025.
An Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is the most esteemed scholarship of its type in the UK, designed to inspire pupils to pursue their dreams and change the world as an outstanding engineer of the future. There are many benefits from gaining the scholarship such as exclusive virtual and in-person events, mentoring with professional engineers as well as a financial incentive to spend on STEM related activities, including travel or STEM equipment.
