It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of former teacher Mr Alwyne Brown, aged 84 Years.
Alwyne taught Classical Civilisation, Latin and Greek at QEGS from 1966 -2002 as well as taking on the role of Head of Year 9. He was enthusiastic and a well-liked member of staff amongst pupils and colleagues often taking part in extra curricular activities and trips.
During his time at QEGS Alwyne accompanied pupils to various destinations including the annual Classics trip to Pompeii and produced and directed a number of school plays including The Vigil, Pot of Gold and Henry VI – Part 3 as well as take part in school pantomimes.
Alwyne had a zest for life, and it was no surprise that he volunteered to be involved with the Duke of Edinburgh program each year, taking part in camping trips and weekends away. He was also heavily involved with swimming and would teach as well as play a significant role in life guarding and helping out with the swim team, particularly at the annual galas.
Upon retirement, Alwyne joined the NHS taking on a role in patient transport.
Alwyne leaves his wife Beryl and his son Tim and his family and many friends.
