We were delighted to welcome The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Suleman Khonat to Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School this week.

The Mayor, wearing his gold chain, was given a tour of the school By Mrs Southworth, Head of the Primary School and Mr Vyse, Deputy Head.

The Mayor was treated to a chemistry lesson by Dr Saunders, Head of Science and Mr Conefrey, Head of Year 8 and Pupils from our Primary school showed the Mayor various models that they had made from Lego.

After his tour, the Mayor met with Mrs Gammon, Head and Secondary pupils, in the Garstang Room. The Mayor kindly led a question and answer session which included conversations about growing up in Malawi,  the importance of education,  the value of his gold chain and why reading is fundamental for all young people.

Before leaving the Mayor very kindly gifted 2 pairs of Blackburn Rovers Football Club tickets to pupils.

A special thank you to our Primary school and Science faculty for being so welcoming and to the pupils who were invited to join the Mayor in the Garstang Room, you really did Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School proud.
