The 15th September saw a group of pupils and students accompany Mrs Gammon and Mr Vyse to Blackburn Cathedral to represent Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School at a very special event in honour of one of our former pupils, Adam Van Cleef, who very sadly passed away due to cancer in 2018 aged just 23.
Adam’s father and uncle have been raising money for Cancer Research UK by cycling and, whilst they originally only planned to do one bike ride from John o’ Groats to Land’s End, they have now completed their fourth cycling challenge, aiming to reach their goal of raising £250,000 and cycling a total of 7500 miles.
Their latest challenge, a journey which started in Truro, passing 21 of the 42 English Cathedrals, with the remainder being covered next year, saw them arrive at Blackburn Cathedral on 15th September, they completed their journey earlier this week in Bradford.
Adam was a very pleasant, helpful, optimistic, bright and cheerful character and we were very fortunate to have had Adam as part of the school community. He will always be remembered fondly at QEGS.
